CHAPMANVILLE — It was a successful 2012 opener for the Chapmanville Regional High School golf team which downed Cardinal Conference opponent Herbert Hoover by eight strokes at Sandy Brae recently.

The Tigers shot a 161, while the Huskies had a 169 for the day.

The match was shortened by a severe thunderstorm.

Chapmanville then followed with a seventh-place finished in the 23-team Capital City Classic at Big Bend on Monday.

Jacob Workman had a 78 to lead the Tigers. Forrest Roberts had an 81, William Copley an 84 and Austin Fryean 87.

“We are very young this season, but we have some kids who can become good players with work. In the past two seasons we have three kids that have moved on to play college golf and they will be hard to replace,” Chapmanville coach Tommy Kirk said.
