The middle of the month saw law enforcement officers spending more and more time arresting shoplifting suspects.

• Bobby Bryant, 39, of Verdunville, was arrested by Sgt. D.A. White and Patrolman J. Sheppard of the Logan Police Department for shoplifting and public intoxication on Feb. 18.

According to police reports, at 6:10 p.m., Bryant was apprehended at Walmart by the Loss Prevention staff after he allegedly selected, concealed and removed $34.85 worth of merchandise.

"A check of subject's record revealed that (Bryant) did have a prior conviction for shoplifting in Logan County, namely at Walmart, back in July of 2007," the report states. "(Bryant) was also highly intoxicated at the time of his arrest. (Bryant) was placed under arrest for pubic intoxication and shoplifting second offense."

Bryant was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 8:30 p.m.

• Robin Renea Collins, 33, of Chapmanville, was arrested by officers White and Sheppard for shoplifting, possession of a controlled substance, improper registration and obstructing on Feb. 18.

According to police reports, the officers and Deputy Terry Brumfield and Deputy M.B. Carter of the Logan Sheriff's Department responded to Walmart about an unknown disturbance.

When arriving on the scene, the officers were advised that Collins, along with Bobby Bryant, who is Collins's brother, allegedly took items from Walmart and left the store without paying for them, the report states.

The stolen items amounted to $38.45.

"When speaking with (Collins), she was asked if she had any other items that belonged to Walmart," the report said. "She stated that she did not. This officer then discovered she had an unopened bottle of Tylenol that belonged to Walmart in her possession. Five round blue pills with "BARR" on one side and "555" over "164" were also found in her possession. The pills are believed to be a 10 mg Valium, a Schedule IV controlled substance. While attempting to make arrangements for the defendant's vehicle, a black Monte Carlo, Deputy Carter found that the registration belonged to a 2002 Chevy Impala.

Collins was booked at the regional jail at 8:30 p.m.

• Katrina Renee Mounts, 26, of Whitman, was arrested by officers J.L. Sheppard and Artie Willis of the Logan PD for shoplifting, public intoxication and home confinement violation on Feb. 15.

According to police reports, the officers responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart and met with loss prevention officers who were told Mounts allegedly "did select an eye make-up kit off the shelf and concealed it on her person."

"(Mounts) then exited the store without paying for the item," the report states. "At that time, she was apprehended and taken to the office in Walmart. The stolen merchandise amounted to $5.16. When speaking with (Mounts), these officers observed her to have slurred speech and glassy eyes. Officer Sheppard then gave the defendant two field sobriety tests (and) the defendant failed both tests. When asked if she had taken any medication, she stated that she had taken her daily dose of methadone. Upon further investigation, the officers found that the defendant had two prior convictions for shoplifting on April 12, 2001, and Dec. 26, 2007. While processing the defendant, these officers learned she was on home confinement."

Home confinement officer John Reed confirmed Mounts had violated her home confinement agreement.

Mounts was booked at the regional jail at 2:50 p.m.

• Clarence Thompson Jr., 51, of Logan, was arrested by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.K. Harris for shoplifting, public intoxication, obstructing an officer and being a fugitive from justice on Feb. 14.

According to police reports, a witness reported she had seen Thompson allegedly "conceal and attempt to leave the store with several packages of raw meat with a total value of $63.97."

"Upon arrival, this officer made contact with the accused, who was observed to be under the influence of alcohol," the report states. "The accused initially refused to provide this officer with his name and later provided this officer with a fictitious name and date of birth. During a search of the accused, a library card was found with the name of the accused, at which time the accused provided his real identity. Further investigation revealed the accused is a fugitive from the state of Virginia."

Thompson was booked at the regional jail at 11:10 p.m.
