CHARLESTON — With his record setting performance against Shaw last Thursday night University of Charleston senior running back Jordan Roberts has been named the season’s first West Virginia Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.
Roberts, a 5-11 senior running back from Madison, established a single-game school record in the 44-36 win over Shaw.
Roberts, a Scott High School graduate, rushed for 238 yards and a score on 23 carries. Roberts averaged 10.3 yards per rush with a long of 52 yards. Out of the backfield, he caught two passes for 27 yards. Roberts also returned a kick for 28 yards. In all, he totaled 293 all-purpose yards to stay on track from where he left off in 2011 when he finished ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II for All-Purpose yardage.
The Golden Eagles will look for Roberts to have another breakout game as they prepare for a Thursday, Sept. 6 matchup against Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) who is coming into the contest after defeating NCAA Division I-AA opponent Valparaiso 36-34 last week.
Dating back to last year the University of Charleston is currently riding a five-game winning streak as they move into game week against the Pumas.
