MAN – The Man High School girls’ volleyball team is off to its best start in years after sweeping to a tri-match win on Tuesday night over Tug Valley and River View at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Lady Billies are now 4-0 on the season after beating River View, 25-20, 25-19 and then knocking off Tug Valley, 25-18, 25-21.
River View toppled Tug Valley 25-19, 25-11 to finish 1-1 in the tri-match.
Man coach Orlando Washington was overall pleased with the two wins in the home opener but said there’s plenty of room for improvement.
“Summer Sword continued her steady play,” Washington said. “Tiara Owens also did a good job when she was on the court. Even though we won both matches we played extremely sloppy in both contests and that has to improve if we are going to be the team I think we can be. We cannot continue to make a boatload of mistakes when we play because eventually that will catch up with us.”
The Lady Billies travel to Wyoming East on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match. Man’s next home match will be next Thursday, September 13 against Westside and Chapmanville in a 6 p.m. tri-match.
Man then goes to Mingo Central on Monday at 6 p.m. and travels to Lincoln County on Sept. 11 to take on the Class AAA Lady Panthers. The Lady Billies then follow with a home match on Sept. 13 against Westside and a road match on Sept. 18 at Tug Valley.
The Logan High School volleyball team was slated to play at Sissonville on Tuesday. No results were reported to the Logan Banner. The Lady Cats play at Lincoln County on Thursday and play at Westside on Sept. 15 and 17.
The Chapmanville Regional High School volleyball team was scheduled to play at Poca on Tuesday but no information on the match was reported. The Lady Tigers go to Wayne on Sept. 11 and play at Man on Sept. 13.
