IMOGENE BROWNING

LOGAN, W.Va. — Katherine Imogene Browning, 89, of Logan and Hurricane, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 29, 2012. Imogene passed peacefully in her sleep after a short illness while residing at Broadmore Senior Living in Hurricane.

Imogene was born in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Carl and Mary Estelle McHone Miller. She resided in Logan most of her life with her husband, Harold V. Browning, who preceded her in death.

Imogene was a graduate of Bluefield High School and Concord College. She also attended the Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) and Marshall University. She loved teaching and was a faculty member at Monaville Elementary School for 42 years. She was also Teacher of the Year in 1971-1972. An active member of Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Imogene served on many church councils and committees, was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and played the piano for church and special services and at times played the organ for B’nai El Synagogue in Logan. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

Survivors include two brothers, Richard C. Miller (Lillian) of Hurricane and Mark L. Miller or Marietta, Ga.; 11 nephews; five nieces; her church family and many devoted friends and former students whom she loved very much.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, September 14, at the Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas E. Beckette presiding. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

The family will receive visitors from 12-1 p.m. Friday at the church.

The Family of Imogene Browning wishes to express their sincere thanks and deepest appreciation to the staff of Broadmore Senior Living for the love and care they showed Imogene over the past year; and to the many friends and family who have expressed love and sympathy to Imogene and her family. Sorry for your loss! Mrs. Imogene Browning was one of my favorite teachers! God blessed me with the privilege of being in her class and get to know her! She touched so many lives and was always so kind! She will surely be missed they just don't get any better than her.
