Only one student was on the bus. Emergency crews were called to the scene to check out the bus driver and the students.
Logan County Schools Assistant Superintendent Jim Guy said the driver and student both escaped injury in the crash.
“One of our special needs buses got sideswiped by an SUV at Trace Fork of Chapmanville,” Guy said. “There were no injuries. The Logan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash. There was one student on board and the parents came and got the student and took the student to school.”
Guy said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m.
The bus was on its way to pick up another student, Guy said.
“We think the driver clipped the bus,” Guy said. “It tore the side of the SUV up. We called 911 and the sheriff’s department responded. Everything was checked out and was fine. It was just an accident on a narrow road.”
Guy said protocol was followed in the crash.
“I’ll be picking up the police report tomorrow,” Guy said.
The bus wreck is the second this year in Logan County. There were no injuries on the first school bus wreck.
Guy said no citations were issued to either driver and the sheriff’s investigation is ongoing.
