MANSFIELD, Ohio — Steve Popp, Jr., 74, passed away late Thursday evening, September 20, 2012.
Born April 28, 1938, in Logan, he was a son of the late Steve Sr. and Mary Nastoi Popp. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Kathryn Popp.
Steve retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years of service and involvement in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. An independent, outgoing and caring man, his personality was perfectly suited to his later career as a salesman. Steve was a fan of NASCAR, the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and shopping.
Survivors include a son, Steve (Kathy) Popp III; daughter, Michelle (Patrick) Hassert; seven grandchildren, Zach, Allie, Miles, Stephanie, Jennifer, Chris and Joe; two sisters, Dolly (Jerry) Mauppin and Barbara (Ted) Woolcock; two brothers, Jim (Connie) Popp and Don (Priscilla) Popp; a special companion, Phyllis Lange, and his four legged buddy Gunny.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 27, at 9:30 a.m. in Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery at Rittman, Ohio.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Marine Corps League.
