CHAPMANVILLE – The Chapmanville Middle School football team ran its record to 2-3 on the season with Thursday night’s 24-14 win at home over the Poca Dots at Chapmanville’s Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers, which hadn’t played a game in two weeks, were led by Alex Oxley, who rushed for 116 yards on 13 carries, including a touchdown.

Ross Adkins ran six times for 52 yards, caught two passes for 15 yards and also had a score.

CMS quarterback Dylan Smith was 3-for-3 passing for 12 yards, including a two-point conversion pass to Ryan Craddock.

On defense, Chapmanville was led by Austin Butcher, who had 16 total tackles. Scotty Vance had nine tackles, while Craddock and Evan Willis each had eight stops. Alex Oxley had seven tackles and Hunter Long had six.

Adam Vance had a fumble recovery.

“We played pretty good tonight and very pleased to get the win,” CMS coach James Barker said. “Defensively, we are getting better. We are starting to tackle better and make plays. Offensively, the front line blocked really well tonight. The way Poca lined up defensively, Alex Oxley got the call tonight and was our workhorse. Alex had a great game on both sides of the ball and had his best game of the year so far. Defensively, we are starting to play better, the kids are starting to adapt to our defense better and we can start doing more with our alignments. Now it’s back to work for next week’s game against Madison.”

The Tigers are set to host Madison next Thursday, Oct. 4 in their annual homecoming game. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Madison 46, Logan 14

MADISON — Madison handed the Logan Middle School football team its first loss of the season with Thursday night’s 46-14 win over the Timberwolves at the Scott High School football field in Madison.

Logan quarterback Noah Corbett was 4-for-15 passing for 72 yards and an interception. He rushed for 26 yards. Ty Browning had one catch for 26 yards and ran with the ball 16 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniel Browning had a grab for 12 yards and rushed for 38 yards. Braxton Goff snared one pass for 24 yards. Matt Brown also reeled in a pass for the T-Wolves (4-1) for 10 yards.

Leading the LMS defense was Ty Browning, Brown and Daniel Browning with four tackles each. Daniel Browning also caused a fumble.

“Having a handful of normal starters out due to injuries and playing a tough Madison team, led to this outcome. It’s time to put this loss behind us, get healthy, and get ready for a tough Man team,” T-Wolves coach Jared Voldness said.

Next week, the Timberwolves are scheduled to travel to Man on Thursday, Oct. 4 in a 7 p.m. contest which will be for the county championship.

The Logan Middle JV team is slated to play host to Madison on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 2 against Chapmanville at 6 p.m.

Man 42, Oceana 20

MAN — The Man Middle School football team improved to 4-1 on the season with Thursday night’s 42-20 win at home over the Oceana Indians in the annual MMS homecoming game.

Kyle Browning scored four touchdowns on runs of 18, 14 and 42 and returned a kickoff 76 yards for another score. He also tossed a halfback pass for a 30-yard touchdown to Tyler Blair.

Fullback Jake Fry bulled in for a 1-yard touchdown and added three two-point conversions as well.

Man took an early 6-0 advantage on Browning’s first of four touchdown on the evening with 4:35 to play in the first period.

Oceana knotted the game at 6-6 at the 7:19 mark of the second stanza on a 3-yard TD catch by Jake Stafford.
