HOLDEN, W.Va. — Thelma Gares, 79, of Holden, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.
Born November 16, 1932, in Logan County, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Linda Stroud Maynard. Also preceding her in death were four brothers Tennis, James, Mennis and Ira Jr. Maynard, and one sister, Mearle Adkins.
Thelma was a retired butcher from Island Creek Coal Company and a cook at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College; she had also worked at the Holden Drug Store. She attended Maryetta Baptist Church and loved Gospel music.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Scott Gares; a special daughter, Martha (Johnny) Jones; special sisters, Eula (Bill) Hatfield, Janet Grieme and Bernice Roberts, and her special baby, Peebles, her beloved dog.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, at Honaker Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Skeens officiating. Burial will follow in Tom Maynard Cemetery on Kelly Knob.
Pallbearers include Johnny Roberston, Darren Mowery, Kevin Damron, Garland Lukacs, Roger Damron and Gary Frye.
Honorary pallbearers include Chris Grieme and Johnny Jones.
Friends may call on the family from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where a special service will begin at 7 p.m.
