DANVILLE — A pedestrian reportedly walked into traffic on Corridor G at Danville last night and was killed.

Sgt. Michael Baylous, public relations officer with the West Virginia State Police Charleston detachment, said a call came into the WVSP detachment in Danville from Boone County 911 around 8 p.m. stating there was a pedestrian in the road on U.S. Route 119 just south of Danville.

Sgt. Baylous said Michael Senecal, 40, of Morrisville, N.Y., was killed when he entered the path of a motor vehicle in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 119.

Senecal was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a 2007 Toyota Highlander sport utility vehicle near the Hatfield-McCoy Exxon gas station near Danville.

“While in route, Sr. Trooper K.D. Harper was advised by Boone 911 that the individual had been struck by a motor vehicle at the U.S. Route 119 and Prichard Road intersection (near the Hatfield-McCoy Exxon gas station),” Baylous said. “On arrival, the victim had died on the scene. He was struck by a 2007 Toyota Highlander (driven by a) resident of Danville. The New York State Police notified his family and the investigation is ongoing.

“At this time, we’re not sure why he was in the roadway and what was going on,” Baylous said.

Traffic was blocked in the southbound lanes of Corridor G for nearly an hour.
