MAN — The Man High School volleyball team moved its record to 19-9 on the season with wins over Wyoming East and Lincoln County on Tuesday night at home.

The Lady Billies beat Class A Wyoming East 2-0 by the scores of 25-17 and 25-9.

Man then defeated 3A Lincoln County 2-1 by topping the Lady Panthers 25-15, 21-25, 25-17.

Man coach Orlando Washington said he was pleased with the pair of wins.

“Summer Sword continued her consistent play,” Washington said. “Morgan Church finally provided us with consistent accurate spikes which we will need he to continue to do for us. She also set well for us. The rest of the girls in the rotation also did well at different times in the matches.”

With the sectional tourney only a couple of weeks ago, Coach Washington said his team still has room for improvement.

“We are still not playing as consistent as I want us to play and are running out of time to find our consistency heading into sectionals,” he said. “The good news is we have a week to really find ourselves. I know it sounds crazy but we still have not even thought that we have a good record. Also I felt like we did better on our defensive rotations.”

The Lady Billies are scehduled to travel to Chapmanville on Thursday to take on the county rival Chapmanville Regional Lady Tigers.

Man then goes to Buffalo to take part in a tournament.

“I am excited about playing in a tournament format so close to sectionals,” Washington said. “It will also give me a chance to see if my team is ready to take the next step. We played in a tournament at Charleston Catholic last Saturday and played really flat with no energy at all and finished seventh out of 11 teams. I felt like we probably had the second or third best team there, but games are not played on paper. You got to go out and beat people and not expect them to just give it to you. So I expect us to have different attitudes on Saturday and play with tons of energy no matter what happens in the matches we play.”

The Lady Billies then have their season home finale on Monday, Oct. 22 against county rival Logan at 6 p.m.

“I encourage everyone to come out and support our four seniors in their last home volleyball match,” Coach Washington said.
