Several arrested on drug charges

Several local residents were arrested recently on drug and other charges.

• Dominique Lee Simmons, 20, of Verner, was arrested by West Virginia State Police Trooper E.B. McClung for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on March 9.

According to police reports, on March 8, the WVSP received a call from an anonymous tipster about illegal drug activity at a residence in Omar. The officer spoke with the owner, who gave permission to search the house.

The report said that during the search of the house, McClung discovered the defendant in the back bedroom, sitting on the bed, "sweating profusely,"

The troopers then secured all individuals who were at the residence.

"A complete search of the residence was then conducted (and), during said search, the undersigned officer located 13 clear plastic bags with a white powder believed to be cocaine inside them," the report said. "The owner of (the house) then informed the undersigned officer that the defendant resides inside (the) room where the illegal drugs were found."

The report said the manner in which the cocaine was packaged is common with the distribution of cocaine and the illegal drug trade.

"Upon search of the defendant, the undersigned officer discovered $1,300 in U.S. currency in denominations of $100 bills, $50 bills and $20 bills, all of which are common denominations used in drug trafficking," the report said.

Simmons was taken into custody and booked at the Southwester Regional Jail at 3:25 a.m.

• Priscilla Frye, 52, of Monaville, was arrested by WVSP Trooper J.K. Harris for possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance and obstructing an officer on March 9.

According to police reports, Lt. Dave Nelson saw Frye allegedly engaged in suspicious activity.

"Lt. Nelson followed the accused and initiated a traffic stop," the report states. "During the traffic stop, the accused consented to a search of her vehicle, during which time several different types of loose pills were discovered in the passenger floor board and the center console of the vehicle. This including one oxycontin 40mg pill and a metal spoon with a white powdery residue. Further investigation produced two witnesses who observed the accused sell one oxycontin 40 mg pill during the time Lt. Nelson observed the accused."

Frye was booked at the regional jail at 4:15 p.m.

Also arrested in regards to the same incident was:

Kimberly Ann Hale-Sartin, 41, of West Logan by WVSP Trooper J.K. Harris for charges of possession of a controlled substance and obstructing an officer on March 9.

According to police reports, Lt. Nelson observed her allegedly "engaged in suspicious activity."

"Subsequent to the traffic stop, the accused attempted to conceal and throw away several various prescription medication pills and drug paraphernalia, to include a spoon with a white powdery residue," the report states. She was taken into custody and was released on bond.

Angel Marie Farley (also known as Angel Tomblin), 33, of Peach Creek, was arrested by WVSP Trooper E.B. McClung for possession of a controlled substance on March 9.

According to her police report, after Lt. Nelson contacted Trooper McClung "about assistance with a situation involving a drug deal that he witnessed" the officers arrived at Peach Creek to locate the defendant and question her about her involvement in the illegal transaction.

"When (police) found Farley, (she) claimed "she had walked to Speedway and had not spoken to anybody other than the clerk at the store."

"The officer knew this to be false. The undersigned officer then gained verbal consent from the defendant to search her person. In said search, the officer located a purple straw approximately four inches long with residue inside said straw. This item was located inside the purse the defendant was carrying at the time of the encounter."

Farley was taken into custody and was released on bond.

In other area arrest reports:

• Christopher Brian Justice, 31, of Stollings, was arrested by WVSP Trooper P.J. Dick and Sgt. B.E. Guthrie for possession of a controlled substance, driving on a revoked license, no insurance, giving false information to an officer and driving left of center on March 7.

According to police reports, Justice was pulled over in a maroon Ford Explorer near Omar by officers who saw him travel left of the center line. The officers observed a cover over the license plate. When questioned, Justice claimed he stopped in Micco to see a man named Paul, who was actually in prison.

"Justice handed Sgt. Guthrie an ID card and stated that he had a valid driver's license but it was not in his possession at this time," the report states.

A DMV check found that Justice's license was suspended 26 times including for four active DUIs. Justice told the officers he had no contraband, but "during a search incident to arrest, Trooper Dick discovered a half of a loratab in the defendant's pocket in cigarette paper cellophane," the report states.

Justice could not provide proof of insurance on the vehicle, the report also said.

Justice was booked at 6:55 p.m. at the regional jail.

• Randall Cecil Bobbitt, 43, of Verner, was arrested by the West Virginia State Police for possession of a controlled substance, DUI, driving on a revoked license, failure to maintain control and no operators on March 6.

According to police reports, Bobbitt lost control of a 1997 Chevy Van on State Route 10 in Davin, crashed in a ditch and turned over into the road. When police officers arrived, they noticed he "had slow speech and seemed to talk with a thick tongue," and he failed three field sobriety tests. When he could not produce a driver's license, the officers ran a check through the Department of Motor Vehicles and found the license had been revoked for DUI.

"Upon viewing the contents of the accused's vehicle, these officers observed a white oval pill further identified as loratab in the glove box of the vehicle while the glove box lid was open," the report states.

Bobbitt was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at 3:15 a.m.

• Richard Lee Kinser, 20, of Chapmanville, was arrested by WVSP troopers P.A. Jones and J.T. Robinson for possession of a controlled substance, obstructing an officer and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit on March 3.

According to police reports, the officers traveled to the Smokehouse area to serve a warrant and found Kinser lying in a bed in the back room of the residence. They woke him up and asked if there were any weapons in the bedroom and Kinser "stated no."

"Upon searching the immediate area, this officer located an AMT .380 semi-automatic pistol and a Jimenez .380 semi-automatic in the bed where the accused was previously laying," the report states. "This officer also observed the accused to have a white powdery substance located within the accused's nasal region. The accused had a small glass cylindrical straw with a white powdery substance located within as well as one generic loritab and five Valium located in the accused's pocket. Upon placing the accused into custody, the accused refused to walk to this officer's cruiser."

Kinser was booked at the regional jail at 11:50 p.m.

• Joseph Scott Osborne, 45, of Kistler, was arrested in Logan County by Trooper McClung for possession of a controlled substance, driving on a revoked license, and giving false information to police on March 2.

According to police reports, McClung was on patrol in Buffalo Creek and pulled Osborne over. When questioning Osborne, McClung noticed "he was so nervous" and provided false information about his identity and the status of his driver's license.

The officer then ran a check and found the license was revoked for DUI.

"The undersigned officer then conducted a pat down for officer safety and during said search, the defendant advised the undersigned officer that he had a couple of crack rocks in his left front pocket."

Osborne was booked at the regional jail at 5:44 p.m.
