MAN – A mistake at a pharmacy sent an infant to the hospital. The child’s mother is suing the pharmacy for compensation to pay medical bills incurred as a result of the mistake.

Suit papers allege Man Pharmacy provided prescription medication intended to treat the nine-month-old infant’s diaper rash. Desonide had not been prescribed for the infant, and was incorrectly filled and provided to the mother.

The mother, unaware of the prescription error, applied the medication on the infant until severe symptoms of cellulitis required the infant be admitted to Logan Regional Medical Center from May 21 through May 24, 2012.

Medical bills incurred to date total $5,709.94 and the mother negotiated a settlement of $27,500 with the pharmacy’s insurance carrier.

The money is to be deposited into an interest-bearing account accessible when the child reaches majority (age 18). A guardian ad litem has been appointed to protect the interests of the infant.
