WEST HAMLIN, W.Va. — Jacob Allen “Jake” Maynard, 84, of West Hamlin, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 26, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington.
Born, November 6, 1928, in Amherstdale, he was a son of the late Manley and Elsie Black Maynard. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 43 years, Ruthie Mae Maynard; two brothers, Calvin Maynard and Dennis “Buddy” Maynard, and two sisters, Sara “Toots” Lucas and Beatrice “Em” Marshall.
Jake was a member of Ethel United Baptist Church, The Hamlin Masonic Lodge No. 79 Thirty Second Degree Mason and Chief of Tri-County Rescue Squad for many years. He also enjoyed church, gospel sings, fishing and his grandchildren especially spending time with “Papaw’s Little Buddy”, Caiden.
Survivors include two daughters, Joni Mullins of West Hamlin and Toni (CD) Bowyer of Chelyan; three grandchildren, Clayton Nathaniel Rakes (fiancée Catilin Justice), Cassidy Nicole (Thomas) Watts, Tina Leann Mullins (fiancé Bryan Heath “BJ” King Jr.) and their father, Steven C. Mullins; one great-grandson, Caiden Heath King “Papaw’s Little Buddy”; seven brothers; Manly Jr. (Alvetta) Maynard and Preacher Billy Joe (Freddie) Maynard, both of Louisville, Ky., Owen (Janice) Maynard of Ambia, Ind., James (Lovadis) Maynard of Dyer, Ind., David (Pat) Maynard of Titusville, Fla., Ezra (Glenith) Maynard of Harts, Edward (Glenna) Maynard of Rogersville, Tenn., and two sisters, Shirley (Ronald) Manns of Harts and Anna Lou Manns of Ambia.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 29, at Koontz Funeral Home at Hamlin with Rev. Earl Ramey and Rev. Russell “Buck” Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Ramey Cemetery, Rt. 37, Ranger, with Masonic Graveside Rites by Hamlin Masonic Lodge No. 79.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
