CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. Herbert “Hub” Ferrell, 78, of Crawley Creek Road, Chapmanville, was born April 3, 1934, at Big Ugly, Lincoln County, a son of the late Walton and Margaret Peyton Ferrell. He departed this life Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington.


Mr. Ferrell was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and a former coal miner. He enjoyed life and especially spending time with his grandsons. He will be greatly missed.


Also preceding him in death was his wife, Sylvia Chafins Ferrell; stepson, Ralph Butcher, and four brothers, Jack, Tom, Ronnie and Carl Ferrell.


Survivors include his companion of 24 years, Shirley Lehman, daughter-in-law, Linda (Joe) Butcher Parcell, grandsons, Edward, Chad and Jeremiah Butcher, and great grandson, Austin Butcher, all of Chapmanville; sisters, Alice Hobbs of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Lillian (Ed) Adkins of Proctorville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Lois Ferrell of Big Ugly; one very special niece, Susie Smith of Big Ugly, and a host of other family and friends.


Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 30, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. John E. Godby officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.


Grandsons and other family members will serve as pallbearers.


Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.


Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
