LOGAN – PRIDE in Logan Executive Director Reginald Jones was recently installed as President of the West Virginia Community Action Program (CAP).
West Virginia CAP is a partnership of all of the agencies across the state including PRIDE. A total of 16 non-profit agencies serve families in all of West Virginia’s 55 counties.
Jones explained, “Some CAPs are a single county CAP like we are, but there are some CAPs that cover up to 10 counties. We vary in size and the West Virginia CAP Association is made up of all the executive directors of all of those agencies.”
These leaders meet monthly to address statewide issues and look at ways to improve services. One of their primary functions is to search out grants and funding for programs that can be implemented across the state.
Jones, who had served on the Board of Directors for the organization, was elected President in July, and will serve a three-year term.
“It’s an honor. It’s a lot of extra work,” said Jones, “But it strengthens what PRIDE does and strengthens all the other agencies as well.”
Jones says his new office doesn’t take him away from his work in Logan because most of it is done through the use of telephones and email.
“There are only two days a month for committee meetings to work on projects and the board of directors meets once a month to conduct business and assess where we are with the grants we are currently working on. It enhances my job and the work that we do here. It’s a supportive atmosphere and all of members and board of directors rely on each other for the exchange of information on any issues or challenges we face.”
According to Jones, there are several grants and programs that are a direct result of the work of the West Virginia CAP. They continuously search for opportunities that will allow them to provide more services or programs.
Jones describes the organization as close-knit and committed to the common goal and mission of eliminating the causes of poverty and helping families become self-sufficient and successful in their lives.
