A lasting economy

Editor,

Twentieth Century operetta, Beverly Sills once said “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going”. Most would agree with her, except for Democrat operatives or the under educated … which is sort of redundant!

Obama’s reelection has given the Democrats great confidence in their plan to perpetual shortcuts to a solid economic future. It can’t possibly happen. Their plan is completely without substance or sound financial principles. But, it is filled with doublespeak and the politics of envy.

The fiscal cliff everyone is talking about has existed for years, even before Obama took office the first time. It is the chicken that is about to come home to roost that many, many conservatives have been warning about for years. It is the check due for the lavish feast that Washington DC politicians have been serving up for decades while promising that the money to pay for it will come … later. Plainly stated, it is the time when the piper must be paid!

So what is the solution that Democrats like Manchin, Rahall and Obama want? They want to raise taxes on the business owners. Huh? So, let me see if I understand. You want to chop the head off the golden goose, gut it and get all the golden eggs at once. Right? I think I’ve read this story somewhere before? But won’t that kill the goose you ask. Of course, but it sounds good to those who only want the gold!

Don’t worry Manchin and Rahall say, it is just a little shortcut … and then they begin the doublespeak of “fairness” and “investing” and “sharing” blah, blah, blah. To better understand what they are saying, let me share a lesson in how to understand Democrat lying. When a Democrat says, “We need to invest in America”, he is really saying, “We want to spend more money than we have”. When he says, “We want everyone to have a chance to own a home”, he is really saying, “We are going to require that banks make loans to people who can’t afford them”. When they say, “Everyone deserves the opportunity to go to college”, they mean, “We are going to federalize student loans and give taxpayers the bill”.

Here is Obama’s fiscal cliff plan in a nutshell. The government (which creates NO wealth because it only collects and uses other people’s wealth) will print new money (Quantitative Easing) to spend money it doesn’t have (Stimulus Spending) on projects that aren’t needed (Industries of the Future) to create temporary jobs that otherwise don’t exist (Union Payoffs). In short, another money laundering scheme to keep Democrat supporters (those riding in the wagon) happy.

Oh I forgot, and who gets the bill for this money drunken fiasco? Those of us who actually work and produce something of value to the market! Oh, I almost forgot his most important point, he promises to cut spending … later! Santa Obama and his Democrat elves like Rahall and Manchin have one objective, get as many people as possible riding in the wagon, then feed them the golden goose and remind them to vote Democrat.

There is no such thing as building an economy from the bottom up (Obama’s first campaign slogan) or from the middle out (his reelection slogan). The only way to build a lasting economy is to allow people to invest in themselves to create goods and services of value which others are willing to pay for and then let them keep the profits from their efforts. It works every time it has ever been tried. But, unfortunately for Democrats, it isn’t a good shortcut and besides that, it sounds too much like work!

Presidential election

Editor,

In 1936, Franklin D. Roosevelt, then the President of the United States, declared, “Liberalism becomes the protection for the farsighted conservative. I am that kind of conservative because I am that kind of liberal.”

The history of West Virginia since then has proven the FDR thesis to be true. After many years of loyalty to the New Deal brand of Democratic Party politics, West Virginia became content and satisfied with what it had, and thus chose to reject the New Politics of the New Left and the counterculture in the 1965-75 period of American history. As that kind of ideology came to dominate the national Democratic Party, the Mountain State turned against that party’s nominees for President.

The ultimate result finally came in this year’s Presidential election. For the first time ever, a Republican Presidential nominee swept every county in the state. Even in 1972, New Left Democratic nominee George McGovern carried Logan County over Republican President Richard Nixon, but only by 500 votes, while Nixon won all other West Virginia counties.

This trend is likely to continue, at least on the Presidential level, as the Mountain State is far less diverse than is most of the rest of the country.

Standard Democrat answer, when confronted with the utterly incompetent disaster Obama is:

"WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA bad old Bush did it."

But, alas, readers, we live in the day of the food stamp and welfare/comp rider taker class ruling the country.

Obama is Santa Claus, robbing from those that work to give to those that don't, with three elves named Nick, Jay, and Joe to hand out the freebies.

Dollupone: I agree, George Bush may have spent like a drunken sailor on wars in the middle east. By the way, his spending was authorized and voted on by our Congress, including most Democrats. Now, along comes Obama, he exercizes his Executive Privledge and spends like five drunken sailors. Just one example is the fact that Obama gave 1/2 billion dollars of our money to his Solyndra buddies. Solyndra then files for bankruptcy. Where's all that money now? Dollupone, it's nice that you are concerned about governments wasteful spending. Now, you can help us hold Obama accountable because his spending/borrowing is enslaving us, our kids and our grandkids with his Trillion's of dollars of debt.

Gary, Let me remind you. Your party spent like drunken sailors under Bush. You need to own up to your parties defaults.

You are right Doll. The Republicans spent wildly as well (which I mentioned by noting that it started long before Obama). Howver, Obama and the Dems have taken it way beyond the Bush years. Bush charged 2.4 Trillion in 8 years. Obama charged 6.1 Trillion in just 4 years. He essentially trippled the credit card bill in one half the time and hopes to charge even more in the next four. I wish I could live like that and hand the bill to other people to pay!
