It wasn’t a good night for the Man High School girls’ basketball team on Monday night at Westside as the Class A Lady Billes were pounded 72-34 by the defending 2A state champion Lady Renegades.
Man senior Summer Sword, however, had a special night.
Sword led Man with 17 points and broke over 1,000 points for her career. She reached the plateau after nailing a 3-pointer — one of three she made on the evening.
Man dropped to 2-2 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Billies trailed 20-9 after one quarter, 42-15 at the half and 63-19 after three after being outscored 21-4 in the third stanza. Man outpointed Westside 15-9 in the fourth.
Taylor Whited tallied seven points for Man. Morgan Conn and Mika McCoy netted four points apiece. Tiffany Belcher had two.
Hope Lester and Faith Davis led Westside with 17 points each. Megan Endicott had 12 on the night.
Man was only 11-for-21 from the free throw line. The Lady Renegades hit on 16-of-25.
The Lady Billies are scheduled to return to the hardwood on Thursday at Greater Beckley Christian in a 7 p.m. contest. Man then plays one more time over Christmas break — a Dec. 28 home game against Wahama. Tip off for that one is 5 p.m.
