MAN — One of the Triadelphia area’s favorite residents will be honored Sunday, March 22, with a birthday celebration and reception by friends and family.

Laura Hinchman, local educator, historian and civic volunteer, will be honored on her 90th birthday at the Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church from 1-3 p.m. Former students, co-workers, friends and family are welcome to stop by to visit with Hinchman on her special day.

Hinchman, the daughter of the late Walter Hinchman and Ann Brooke McVey Hinchman, was born on the family’s homeplace at Combs Addition. At the age of 11 months, Hinchman’s father died and her mother later married Pete Toler, who Laura loved and always referred to as “daddy.”

Valedictorian of the Man High School graduating class of 1936, Hinchman has served as a teacher, dean of girls and student guidance counselor. She also served several years as a guidance counselor director for the Wyoming County Board of Education and with the West Virginia State Department of Education in a position in the Division of Guidance and Counseling.

A member of the Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church, Hinchman is also president of the Hemlock Hills Garden Club and serves as Queen Mother for the Red Hat Divas of Man.

Again, former students, coworkers, friends and family are welcome to stop by the reception between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at the Bruce McDonald United Methodist Church to convey birthday wishes to Hinchman.
