Santa was busy Wednesday night at Logan Middle School, working with a crew of volunteers to hand out gifts and light up the faces of about 400 children. Candy Patterson Brewer says the Matt Patterson Toy Drive has gotten bigger and better every year. Fundraising takes place all year long and toys are collected at various local businesses. Families submit forms for their children at their school, so most packages are put together with the child in mind. Each child receives at least five items in their Christmas package. Brewer also has clothing in various sizes available as well as extra toys available in case children who did not register come in. “We never turn any child away. If we have to go buy more things, every child who comes in will leave with a Christmas package,” said Brewer.

First the good: Kudos to Ms. Brewer and all the people who worked with the Matt Patterson Toy Drive. They've always done a wonderful job and made a Merry Christmas to many young unfortunate, but deserving children.

Now the bad: Some parents have actually COMPLAINED that they didn't get enough for their children. They are YOUR children, where's your role in this? I understand some people, through unfortunate events, are unable to provide for their children. For the rest, some go from organization to organization to get what they can get. Some trade or sell it, and the babies never see it. Your responsibility does not end with bringing them into the world, so MAN UP!!!!!!
