LOGAN, W.Va. — George Richard Nisbet, 79, of Logan, departed this life Tuesday, December 25, 2012.
Born February 27, 1933, in Logan, he was a son of the late Mary Bobbitt. Also preceding him in death was his beloved uncle, William “Bill” Nisbet, and his brother, Robert “Bob” Alexander.
George served in the U.S. Marine Corp., played football for the Marshall Thundering Herd and graduated with a master’s degree in 1959. From 1959 to 1966 George coached football, wrestling, basketball and baseball at Logan High School. Over a four year period, his wrestling teams compiled a 53-1 record. George is also a member of the Logan High School Sports Hall of Fame.
For many years George was the director for the WV Elks Lodge crippled children’s camp. He worked to start up the Logan Area Marshall Athletic Club, served on the Logan County Commission. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Logan where he served as a deacon. Most of all George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a big heart and a great capacity for love which was felt by many. He will be missed.
Survivors include his devoted wife and partner, Jean Ann Nisbet; his children, George “Butch” (Alyse) Nisbet Jr., Michael (Genene) Nisbet and Amy (Eddie) Walsh; brothers, William “Bill” Bobbitt and James “Jimmy” Nisbet, and grandchildren, Ashley Bird, Richard Nisbet, Janie Walsh, Olivia Nisbet and Casey Walsh.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 28, at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Beckette officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
