MAN — It’s next to impossible to score 36 points in a single quarter — even for an NBA team.

But the Westside Renegades did it on Tuesday night at Man, outscoring the Man High School basketball team 36-4 in the opening stanza and cruising to a 91-54 victory over the Hillbillies at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

Westside improved to 7-5 on the season with the win, while Man dropped to 3-9.

The Renegades had just blown out the Billies 105-55 on Jan. 8 at Clear Fork.

Man was led by freshman guard John Thomas Keffer, who poured in 21 points. Jake Adkins finished with 13. Chris Justice had eight, while Kenny Joe Adkins and Cayce Mullins had four each. Gage Harvey chipped in with two points.

Levi Lambert took game scoring honors with 23 points to lead Westside. He was followed by Corey Bowles with 15 and Justin Browning, who netted 13. Justin Cogar had eight points, while Will Fox and Matt Harless had seven each. Hunter Walker added four, Morgan Brewer three and Scott Jenkins, Bryce Robinson and Corey West had two each.

Westside was just too quick and fast for the much younger Hillbillies as its pressure defense turned into steals and easy layups.

The Renegades went up 5-0 on a basket by Browning and old-fashioned three-point play by Justin Cogar at the 7:21 mark. Browning’s bucket came with just four seconds into the game.

A jumper by Man’s Adkins cut the lead to 5-2 but then Westside went on a 15-0 scoring rampage to make it a 20-2 ballgame with 4:40 left in the opening period.

The Renegades went on the take a commanding 32-point lead after the first quarter.
Westside would take a 40-point lead midway into the second stanza at 53-13 on a layup by Cogar.
Keffer then scored the final eight points of the quarter on two 3-pointers and a two-point shot as Westside took a commanding 55-23 halftime lead.
The Renegades then outscored Man 24-16 in the third period as Westside head coach Nick Cook subbed out several starters.
Man was able to win the final quarter 15-14 as Westside would play its JV players in the final frame.
The Billies are scheduled to return to action on Friday night at Greater Beckley Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Man then hosts River View on Jan. 22 and plays host to the same Greater Beckley Christian team on Jan. 25.

Man has dropped four out of its last five games and are just 2-9 since opening the season with a 57-45 win at River View.
