MAN — Heading into the stretch drive of the regular season all the pieces seem to be coming together for the Man High School girls’ basketball team.

The Lady Billies won two games recently to improve to 8-3.

Led by standout senior guard Summer Sword, Man won 65-42 at Wahama on Wednesday night and then turned around on Thursday and defeated Class A sectional foe Sherman 64-46 at home.

In the Wahama game, the Lady Billies placed four players in double digits in scoring, led by Morgan Conn and Taylor Whited, who dropped in 14 points each.

Sword pitched in 13 points, while Mika McCoy had 10.

Man jumped out to an early 20-9 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back.

The Lady Billies outscored Wahama 24-3 in a decisive second quarter and led 44-12 at the half. Man led 54-23 after three and cruised in the fourth quarter.

Rounding out Man’s scoring was Jennifer Shull who scored eight points, Keely Porter with five and Summer Combs with two.

The White Falcons were led by Sierra Carmichael, who had 21 points in a losing cause.

In the victory at home over Sherman at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse, Sword exploded for 33 points.

The Lady Billies led 16-12 after one quarter, before outscoring the Tide 19-11 in the second to take a 35-23 halftime edge.

Man would go on to outscore Sherman 13-11 in the third to grab a 48-34 lead.

In the fourth, a short jumper inside the paint by McCoy gave Man a 20-point cushion at 54-34.

Sword then hit two 3-point shots as Man was able to put away the Tide.

“We played well, especially on defense,” Man coach Tonia Ward said. “We just need to keep improving and hope that we are peaking come tournament time.”

Whited added 14 points and McCoy 11 for the Lady Billies. Shull contributed four points, while freshman Tiffany Belcher had two.

Sherman was led by Sarah Massey with 19 and Jordan Lewis with 11.

Man was scheduled to play at Mount View on Friday night but the game was called off due to the snowstorm this week which hit southern West Virginia, particularly along the Virginia border.

The Lady Billies are scheduled to host Charleston Catholic on Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip time.

Man is 6-1 over its last seven games and 7-1 since starting the season with a 1-2 mark.
