The Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team lost a 43-42 Cardinal Conference heartbreaker at Herbert Hoover on Tuesday night.

Chapmanville dropped to 8-5 overall on the season and 3-4 in the Cardinal Conference. The Tigers also saw their four-game winning streak come to a close.

Herbert Hoover (8-4) gained a split with the Tigers this season. Chapmanville had won the season opener over the Huskies 42-24.

Hoover’s Samuel Scholcraft hit a shot from the baseline to put his team up for good in Tuesday night’s contest with 30 seconds to play.

Chapmanville had one more chance but Hoover’s Cody Morris blocked a shot at the buzzer.

The Tigers led 14-4 after one quarter and 23-12 at the half before the Huskies outscored Chapmanville 22-8 in the third to make it a 34-31 game in favor of Herbert Hoover.

Mackenzie Martin led Chapmanville with 18 points. Kenny Plumley had 13 and Jon Williamson five, while Mike Hurst, Trey Dalton and Zac Casto all had two points.

Morris finished with 12 points and six blocks to lead the Huskies.

The Tigers return to action on Friday at Tolsia.


Chapmanville 52,

Sherman 22

The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team ran its record to 8-7 on the season with Tuesday night’s convincing 52-22 win at home over Sherman.

Chapmanville led Sherman (6-8) by an 8-2 score after one quarter, 20-11 at the half and 40-16 after three. The Lady Tigers then outscored the Tide 13-6 in the fourth.

Kristin DesRocher led CRHS with 24 points. Autumn Baisden had five, while Jessica Rideout, Savannah Wiley and Kortni Packo had four each. Katelynn Manns, Christinia Osborne and Shian Meeks all had two points.

Bethan Kinder led Sherman with six points.

The Lady Tigers host county rival Logan on Jan. 30.
