LORADO — Gun shots being fired near homes brought the West Virginia State Police to Lorado last Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were told James “Jamie” Hicks was shooting over homes and had shot over homes and into a street light several times. Glass on the ground below the light and several holes consistent with gunshots confirmed the complaint.

The officer then heard a series of five gunshots fired from the residence of the accused. The officer spoke with Hicks at the residence and was told he did shoot his 44 magnum (five shot) revolver outside into the hillside.

Neighbors told the officer they observed the accused shooting a 22 caliber rifle from his porch in the direction of the victim’s house. The also told the officer they know it was Hicks because the gunshots came from right between their trailer and Hicks’ trailer.

Further investigation revealed the gunshots fired by Hicks traveled over multiple residences and roadways.

James Wilbur Hicks, 42, was arrested and charged with five counts of wanton endangerment and eight counts of shooting across roadways and dwellings. Hicks’ bond was set at $25,000.
