Late last summer, for the sixth straight year, the Logan County Commission offered county residents free dumping of trash. Totals released by the Commission for 2012 reflect that total tonnage of 732.95 tons or 1,465,900 pounds, was down from the 2011 cleanup which netted nearly 4 million tons of trash.
“The overall tonnage for the cleanup for 2012 went down,” said Rocky Adkins, Logan County Administrator. “We think that is so because some of the guidelines we put on the cleanup this year.”
Last summer, those wanting to dump were asked to bring proof of Logan County residency.
“It is also our hope that because of past cleanups, we are seeing a decline in what there is too cleanup every year,” said Adkins. “We’re hoping that is part of the overall picture.”
Adkins said he had hopes that the number goes down again next year.
“As we are doing our demolition programs and our annual cleanups, we are hoping that all those will have a mindset on the county on how clean we want to be and how presentable we want to be to the public when they come here to ride the trails,” said Adkins.
