Man Middle School students dominated the 65th Annual Logan County Spelling Bee hosted by the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
Logan County School Superintendent Wilma Zigmond looked on as the next Superintendent Phyllis Doty acknowledged spelling bee sponsor First Community Bank representative Phyllis Elliott, Logan County Board of Education members Dr. Pat White and Jim Frye, Becky Bailey, Jan Hammond, Tammy Stowers and Donna Craddock.
The words used for the spellers are 2013 National Spelling Words for grades seven and eight.
Two practice rounds and seven elimination rounds were completed to get to the top three spellers. Amiri Bartley won the championship by spelling the word “bungalow,” the First Runner-Up is Devon Grimmett and Alison Justice is the Alternate.
The 21 students from Logan, Chapmanville and Man Middle Schools were all congratulated on their success in competition at their schools. Each was presented with a trophy to recognize their accomplishment.
