Morgantown gained a season series split with the Logan High School girls’ basketball team with Saturday’s 66-46 win over the Lady Cats at the Morgantown High School gym.
Earlier in the season at Logan, the Lady Cats had scored a thrilling 64-61 upset win over the Lady Mohigans at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.
Class AAA No. 3-ranked Morgantown improved to 15-4 season. Logan dropped to 10-5.
Logan freshman center Monica Mitchell recorded a double-double in the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Shayna Gore and Kyra Cline each pitched in eight points for Logan. Hannah Tothe had four while Summer Collins and Aarron Ward tallied three points each. Hannah Adkins and Jenna Kimler tallied two each.
Leah Taylor netted 18 points to lead Morgantown. Carolina Columbo tossed in 12.
The Lady Mohigans dominated the game in the first half, leading 20-12 after one quarter and 39-19 at the half. Logan outscored Morgantown 15-9 in the third to pull to within 48-34 but an 18-12 fourth quarter by the Lady Mohigans put the game away.
The Lady Cats were scheduled to host Westside on Monday night at Willie Akers Arena as part of a boys/girls doubleheader with the LHS boys, but the game was cancelled.
Logan has five games left to play in the regular season beginning with Wednesday night’s home game with Class AAA sectional foe Spring Valley. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Cats then travel to sectional team Lincoln County on Friday and go to Class AAA No. 1 Greenbrier East on Saturday night.
Next week, Logan hosts Winfield on Feb. 11 and then plays host to Class AA county rival Chapmanville Regional on Valentine’s Day. Logan routed Chapmanville 66-36 earlier in the season on the road.
* The Tug Valley at Chapmanville girls’ contest set for Saturday was also cancelled.
No makeup date was announced.
The Lady Tigers are 8-8 on the season.
* Monday night’s WVHIT game pitting the Man High School boys at Midland Trail was also postponed. No makeup date was announced.
