The Poca Dots made it a sweep over the Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team with a 53-42 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday night at Poca.

The Class AA No. 4 Dots improved to 14-2 on the season with the win.

Chapmanville, led by first-year coach Allan Hatcher, dropped to 8-7.

Noah Frampton led the Dots with 20 points. Matt Chandler netted 10.

Mackenzie Martin paced Chapmanville with 15 points. Brady Cox tossed in 11. Mike Hurst, a senior guard, finished with eight points, while Kenny Plumley and Zac Casto had four each.

Poca went 2-0 over the Tigers this season, also winning a low-scoring 32-29 decision at Chapmanville on Dec. 21.

Poca led 10-4 after one quarter, 22-11 at the half and 37-20 after three. Chapmanville outscored the Dots 22-16 in the fourth but it was not enough.

The Tigers have lost three games in a row. Two games during the span — a contest at Tolsia and a home game against Scott — have been postponed due to bad weather.

CRHS is set to host Tolsia on Friday night in a Cardinal Conference game. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Chapmanville then goes to Mingo Central on Feb. 12 for another conference game. Both games are important for the Tigers since the Rebels and the Miners are both in Chapmanville’s Class AA sectional.

Chapmanville lost 51-50 in overtime to Mingo Central earlier in the season at home. The Miners are coached by former Logan assistant Brad Napier.

The Tigers have yet to play Tolsia this season.

Midland Trail 71,

Man 60

The Man High School boys’ basketball team fell to 4-14 on the season with Tuesday night’s 71-60 loss at Midland Trail in the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament.

Man, which lost at Valley Fayette recently, is now 0-2 in the WVHIT.

Freshman John Thomas Keffer poured in 21 points to lead the Hillbillies.

Tyler Skaggs had a game-high 28 points for Midland Trail.

The Billies are 2-9 in their last 11 games.

Man is scheduled to continue play in the WVHIT this weekend.
