HARTS — The Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team wrapped up a very successful season with Saturday’s 38-32 win over Madison in the Black Diamond Conference championship game at the Harts gym.

Chapmanville had entered the tourney as the No. 1 seed.

The Lady Tigers fell behind 9-3 after the first quarter but roared back to tie it 14-14 at the half.

The game remained close through three quarters with Madison taking a two-point lead 25-23 into the fourth quarter.

Entering the fourth, things started to swing in favor of Chapmanville.

A big fourth quarter then paved the way to victory.

“We tightened up our defensive effort and finally started knocking down some shots and we made our foul shots down the stretch,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said.

CMS was led in scoring by Abby Marcum with 16 points. She was followed closely by Lexi Martin with 14. Hollie Carter, Alyson Bragg and Taylor Manns all had two points each.

Maddy Weeks led Madison with 18 points.

Kirk praised his team for an outstanding season.

“These girls have worked countless hours, along with their teammates to finally get this title,” Kirk said. “I am so proud of them, not only for winning, but for their dedication to our program and to CMS. This group was 36-4 the last two years and are leaving a very hard act to follow, but we have a good group of girls coming back and with hard work they will be just fine.”
