SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. — Frederick Hammond of Scott Depot, originally of Logan, passed peacefully at home after a long illness Thursday March 7, 2013, at the age of 78.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gobel and Estelle Hammond, and his sister, Fern Egbert.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Joann; sons, Scott Hammond of Glasgow, Ky., and Derek (Anne) Hammond of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughters, Cheryl (Keith) Martin and Wendy Herbert, both of Teays Valley; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Eric) Bailey, Kelsey Martin, Austin and Tanner Herbert and their father, Victor, Trevor and Tyler Hammond and Josh and Morgan Hammond; one great grand-daughter, Palmer Bailey; his nephews, Byron Blankenbeckler, George Seager (Brett); niece, Heidi Egbert, and his loving four legged companion - Dash.
While in Logan, Fred was employed in the mining hydraulic business. He spent his life working hard and loved to camp and fish. Fred served in the Marine Corp.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted.
The family will be greeting friends and relatives at 1 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
