Mark A. Cook, 52, of Cyclone, faces multiple charges after a recent accident.
The criminal complaint filed in the Magistrate Court of Logan County says Cook, the defendant, was driving on W.Va. Route 10 heading towards Cyclone when he swerved into the opposite lane of traffic, causing another motorist to crash.
The defendant then hit a telephone pole, causing the wires to fall onto the other crashed car. The defendant continued to back up and struck another motorist.
Logan County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived to find an off-duty West Virginia State Police Trooper had happened upon the scene and already had the defendant in handcuffs.
Officers note the defendant appeared to be highly impaired and unsteady to stand and refused to comply with officers’ simple commands.
One pill bottle containing one Alprazolam 1 mg and one Hydrocodone 10 mg was found on the defendant, along with a second bottle containing two Hydrocodone 10 mg.
The defendant was unable to perform any field sobriety tests and was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for a blood test to determine his sobriety.
Cook was charged with failure to maintain control, DUI, obstructing an officer and simple possession.
