Clear Rate CFO Sam Namy refutes the claim by a local Frontier Communications general manager that one of their customer’s had been “slammed” — a telecommunications term meaning a customer’s phone service provider has been switched without their authorization.

“We use a third-party verification service on every call which confirms the customer’s intent to switch service,” Namy said, adding his company does something most don’t and provides follow-up calls to newly switched customer’s confirming they fully understood they transferred their phone service.

“We take this very seriously,” he said. “We’re a competitor of Frontier and we offer a great opportunity for their customer’s to switch services and save money.”

In fact, Namy said this isn’t the first time his company has been unfairly accused of improper business practices by its competitor.

“They have made similar allegations before and never been able to prove it,” he said. “Our quality control department verifies with the new customer that the sales representative was clear that Clear Rate is not affiliated with Frontier and that we are competing for their business. Additionally, we confirm the sales representative was kind and courteous and didn’t make any other representations.”

The heart of the issue is that before Clear Rate began to offer services in the area there was no competition for Frontier Communications.

Namy said Clear Rate, in business for more than 10 years, is dedicated to providing good customer service and was one of the first companies to compete in the smaller, more rural areas and provide consumers an option for phone and data services.

“When most other telecommunication companies stayed clear of the smaller markets, we saw an opportunity to provide telecommunications serves to underserved areas,” Namy said, adding the company offers an unlimited plan.

Namy said besides providing good customer service, Clear Rate’s inclusion in the marketplace is helping to drive innovation.

“There is a greater focus in the marketplace to bring high speed internet to underserved areas because telecommunication providers know there is an inherent advantage to providing both voice and data services to customers,” he said. “We currently provide high speed interenet, where available, and low-cost internet service across our entire footprint that customers can receive on one bill.”
