The Logan High School baseball team returned to the diamond on Thursday and suffered its first defeat of the season as the Wildcats lost 2-0 at Class AAA regional foe Hurricane.

Hurricane (5-1), ranked No. 2 in the state, pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Logan starter Johnny Morrison. One came home on a bases loaded walk to Trey Dawson. The other runner trotted home after a balk by Morrison.

Austin Hensley pitched the shutout win for the Redskins on the mound. He went the distance, firing all seven innings and allowing six hits while striking out seven.

Both of Morrison’s runs were unearned. He ended up striking out five and walking three over five innings. The right-hander was also credited with a fine defensive play in the fifth.

Josh Rein was 2-for-3 at the plate for Logan (2-1), which had opened up the season with a pair of shutout wins over Scott (11-0) and St. Albans (4-0).

Logan was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Tate Brock was 2-for-3 for the Redskins with two doubles.

Both Logan and Hurricane are scheduled to play in next week’s Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
