An exciting four-week Summer Dance Intensive will be held by the American Academy Ballet, Official School of the Charleston Ballet, during the month of June.
Study with the wonderful roster of teachers that will introduce you to the wonderful world of dance or help you sharpen your technical skills if you are already an accomplished dancer. There are classes offered for all levels and all ages!
From June 3-27, dance and exercise classes will be held throughout the day for students of all ages. A Creative Movement program for 4-5 year olds, Adult Beginning Ballet, Pilates, Zumba, Character, Modern, Irish, Musical Theater/Jazz and Ballet Classes for 6 year olds through professional levels will be offered. Guest and staff instructors include Radenko Pavlovich, Artistic Director of Columbia Classical Ballet, former Boston Ballet principal dancer Olivier Wecxsteen, former Broadway dancer/choreographer Ronnie De Marco, choreographer Miguel Campaneria, Charleston Ballet Artistic Director Kim Pauley, Rob Royce, modern dancer and choreographer Carli Mareneck of Lewisburg, Irish instructor Chantel McCormick, and Angela Price will teach Pilates. Additional seminars, classes and related activities will also be part of this program. The Summer Dance Intensive will be held at the Charleston Ballet’s studio location at 100 Capitol Street. A “Ballet Circuit Training” session is new this year!
Radenko Pavlovich, a native of Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, began his ballet training at the Sarajevo Opera Ballet School, where he quickly advanced to the top of his class, earning him the privilege to attend the prestigious Vaganova Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was accepted with a full scholarship to the Royal Ballet School in London, the only foreign student in a highly elite graduating class. Pavlovich was personally coached by Rudolf Nureyev and earned highest honors at the Balkan Ballet Competition.
Pavlovich began his professional career with the Austrian National Ballet. He also performed with the Croatian National Theatre of Yugoslavia, London Festival Ballet, the Munich State Opera Ballet, Ballet Casa Della Cultura in Equador, and Atlanta Ballet.
After retirement from performing, Pavlovich founded the Columbia Classical Ballet, S.C. The company is comprised of the highest-caliber dancers, qualifying Columbia Classical Ballet as one of the most distinctive and reputable companies of its size.
Olivier Wecxsteen is a former principal dancer with Boston Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. He has performed many leading roles of the classics and also has a great repertoire of contemporary works. He recently taught at the school of the San Francisco Ballet and is currently teaching for the L’Ecole superiure de ballet du Quebec in Montreal, Canada.
Wecxsteen has partnered with many leading ballerinas, performed in international galas in North American and Russia, and coached numerous dancers in the United States and Canada. He is also an accomplished freelance photographer.
Ronnie DeMarco was a leading jazz performer appearing in many on and off-Broadway Shows, television shows and choreographed episodes for Saturday Night Live. He was a teacher and choreographer for many years at the Broadway Theatre Project at University of South Florida in Tampa. He also taught and choreographed for the WV Dance Festival for 28 years.
