In the world of non-profit organizations, funding is most often obtained by applying for grants. The Logan Family Resource Network (FRN) begins this process in March of each year by completing the required grant documents through the WV Department of Health and Human Resources; Bureau for Children and Families.

The March Logan FRN meeting consisted of committee planning sessions for the FRN 2009-2010 strategic agenda and featured two special speakers; Reggie Jones, Executive Director of PRIDE in Logan County, Inc. and Wendy Collins with the Celebrate Recovery program held at the Big Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Mallory.

The 2009-2010 Logan FRN plan will consist of a variety of community projects with the ultimate goal to make things better for Logan County children and families. Project topics will consist of, and are not limited to; transportation issues, health improvement programs, housing improvement projects, food pantries and clothes closets, disability issues and more.

Jones presented information about how to become a “Friend of PRIDE” and current and future PRIDE programs. Jones commented that the new programs coming to PRIDE are the result from a recent community assessment conducted by PRIDE.

One such program is the “Employment Skills Training Program.” This program is a unique and innovative program designed to assist the unemployed, underemployed and economically disadvantaged adults and youth of Logan County. Participants will learn how to make and carry out important personal, career and educational decisions that will dramatically affect their future.

Jones explained that the “Friends of PRIDE” is comprised of community supporters and anyone who is concerned about and dedicated to the mission and goals/objectives of PRIDE in Logan County, Inc. “Friends” can be an individual, family, organization or business. “Friends” will serve, as Jones described the concept as “an auxiliary arm of PRIDE.” For additional information about PRIDE programs and how to become a “Friend of PRIDE,” call 304-752-6868 or drop by the PRIDE office at 699 Stratton Street in Logan.

Wendy Collins lovingly opened her presentation by expressing that Celebrate Recovery is a ministry of hope. The brochure given to FRN participants explains that, “Celebrate Recovery is a Bible based program for individuals and their families who are dealing with emotional distress and addiction issues. By working and applying the 12 Steps and Biblical Principles, spiritual growth begins to happen.”

Collins encouraged folks in need to attend Celebrate Recovery Groups each Thursday from 6:30pm-8 pm at the Mallory church location. For more information, call 304-583-9906.

The April Logan FRN speakers will be Connie Adams, USDA Rural Development Area Technician and Janice Stone, President of the Women’s Club of Omar. The next FRN meeting is set for April 8 at 10:30 a.m. and will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Logan located at Stratton Street.
