Seven Tigers named to all-conference baseball team

CHAPMANVILLE — Seven members of the Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team have been honored with selections to the 2013 All-Cardinal Conference Baseball Team.


Making the all-conference first team from Chapmanville were William Copley, Dustin Conley and Brock Dalton.


The Tigers’ Scottie Thompson and Tristan Thompson were voted to the second team.


Named honorable mention all-conference were Chapmanville’s Nick Brumfield and Trey Dalton.


Chapmanville finished 22-9 this season, falling to Scott in the Class AA sectional championship game. The loss to the Skyhawks ended the Tigers’ string of four straight Class AA section titles.


Copley hit .394 this season for the Tigers, missing part of the season due to injury. He had one home run, 11 RBI, five doubles and a triple.


Conley was 5-4 on the mound for Chapmanville this season with a 3.28 ERA. In a 57.2-inning worksheet, he struck out a team-high 60 batters with 19 issued walks and 21 earned runs allowed. At the plate, Conley hit .350 this season with 10 RBI and three doubles.


Brock Dalton, Chapmanville’s starting centerfielder, batted .388 with one home run, 19 RBI, five doubles and eight stolen bases.


Scottie Thompson, the Tigers’ every day catcher, had a .373 average this spring with 17 RBI and four doubles.


Tristan Thompson, who played shortstop and pitched, had a .379 batting average for the Tigers this season with 19 RBI, seven doubles and a team-best nine stolen bases. On the hill, Thompson was 1-3 with a 4.87 ERA with 28 strikeouts and nine walks in 20.1 innings of work.


Brumfield, a junior right-hander, was 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA. He worked in 35.1 innings and yielded just seven earned runs and three walks while fanning 33.


Trey Dalton was 4-2 with a 2.25 ERA. The left-hander fired 40 innings and gave up only 10 earned runs and 18 walks with 40 strikeouts. In limited at-bats, Dalton batted .636 with seven hits in 11 official trips to the plate. He drove in four runs and had a double.


The Tigers finished 9-7 in conference play this season and were 17-2 overall in home games played at Ted Ellis Field. CRHS was 5-6 on the road and 0-1 in neutral field games.
