Dr. Gregg Hickman, the church’s pastor, indicates the service will be one of Scripture readings, reflections on Good Friday, singing of hymns and a solo by Ama Flowers.
Two readers—Mr. Freddie White and Mrs. Rowena Hicks — will assist the pastor in leading the service, as the choir and congregation respond with hymns and narrative readings. Hickman notes that three of the readings are in the style of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” a popular religious musical popular on Broadway in the 1970s. The purpose of the evening, Dr. Hickman notes, is to draw attention to the Jesus’ trial and crucifixion in preparation for the coming celebration of Easter — Resurrection Day.
Following the service a fellowship time will be observed. Traditional hot cross buns, one of the first pastries to be used centuries ago in celebration of Holy week, and beverages will be services.
