Lady Pioneers win at GW

MAN — The Man Middle School girls’ softball team traveled to Putnam County last Saturday and beat George Washington Middle School, 15-5.

The Lady Pioneers (2-1) pounded out 16 hits, scoring four runs in the first inning, two in the second, four in the fourth and five in the seventh.

Courtney Adkins was the starting and winning pitcher for the game as she went seven innings and allowed five runs and six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.

George Washington did not score until the fourth inning, scoring two runs and then adding two in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Man was led in hitting by Casey Albright, Cari Blair and Emilee Osborne with three hits apiece. Rounding out the hitting were Summer Sword, Stephanie Grimmett, Madison Keffer, Adkins and Micayla Gibson with one hit each.

The Lady Pioneers committed six errors to just one for George Washington.

Man was scheduled to host Madison on Tuesday night. On Thursday, Man plays at Sherman before going to play at county rival Logan Middle School on Friday. All games have 5 p.m. starting times. Man blanked Logan 10-0 earlier in the season at home.
