Grid schedules set for county teams

The 2009 high school football schedules for Logan County football teams Man, Chapmanville and Logan have recently been finalized.

Chapmanville, which had an 8-3 record last season and lost in the first round of the playoffs to James Monroe at home, will have one new opponent this fall in the Tolsia Rebels. Tolsia replaces Winfield, a Triple-A school.

Logan will face three new opponents this season in Perry Central (Ky.), Bridgeport and Hurricane. The Wildcats were 3-7 last year in their first season back at the Triple-A level.

Man, which went 8-4 last season and won a first-round playoff game at Mount Hope, will have six home games at the friendly confines of George A. Queen Memorial Stadium and just four away contests this season.

The Billies replaced Iaeger this year with Matewan. Man last played Matewan in 2006 with the Tigers winning 20-6. Matewan was 10-1 last season and lost to Wheeling Central in the quarterfinal round of the Class A playoffs.

Chapmanville, coached by George Barker, are scheduled to open the season Aug. 28 at home against Cardinal Conference foe Sissonville. Chapmanville then plays at league foe Herbert Hoover on Sept. 4, before hosting rival Scott on Sept. 11. The Tigers play at Cardinal team Poca on Sept. 18 and host 3A county rival Logan on Sept. 25 before observing an open date on Oct. 2. Chapmanville then plays at county rival Man on Oct. 9, hosts Tug Valley on Oct. 16 in a non-conference game, plays at Tolsia on Oct. 23, goes to league foe Wayne on Oct. 30 and closes out the season Nov. 6 at home against Point Pleasant in another Cardinal contest.

Logan opens Aug. 28 at Man, then hosts 3A Lincoln County on Sept. 4 before having an off week on Sept. 11. The Wildcats play at 3A Perry Central on Sept. 18, goes to Chapmanville on Sept. 25, hosts Scott on Oct. 2 and plays at 3A Winfield on Oct. 9. Logan then hosts Herbert Hoover on Oct. 16, goes to 3A Bridgeport on Oct. 23, hosts 3A Hurricane on Oct. 30 and closes out the season Nov. 6 at home against Wayne. The game with Perry Central has a 7 p.m. starting time with all other games having the usual 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Man is scheduled to open Aug. 28 at home against Logan, then goes to Mount View on Sept. 4 and then to Westside on Sept. 12. Man hosts St. Marys on Sept. 18, is off on Sept. 25, then plays at Fayetteville on Oct. 2 before hosting Chapmanville on Oct. 9. The Hillbillies play host to Gilbert on Oct. 16, host Wyoming East on Oct. 23, go to Buffalo-Putnam on Oct. 30 and then host Matewan on Saturday, Nov. 7 in the finale at 7:30 p.m.
