Local law enforcement officers were busy this week with some unusual arrests, including a shooting and an allegedly intoxicated man urinating in public.
Bradley Keith Bowens, 35, of Verdunville, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Hensley for brandishing a weapon, shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling and public intoxication on April 20.
According to police reports, just before 10 p.m. on Monday, the WVSP responded to a “shots fired’ call in Mud Fork.
The report said eye witnesses said Bradley Bowens had been drinking much of the night and went out to his truck and tried to drive off. The report said Bowes’ wife took his keys so he could not leave, but Bradley stayed in the vehicle and took out a Taurus .38 Special revolver and fired it twice.
“Upon looking in the vehicle these officers discovered a black in color .38 revolver,” the report states. “These officers took the weapon out of the vehicle and observed that the weapon had been discharged twice. The vehicle was located about 20 yards from several dwellings.”
Bowens was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 11:40 p.m.
During his arraignment on Tuesday, Magistrate Dwight Williamson told Bowens his wife did him a favor by keeping him from driving. Williamson explained his rights to Bowens and the possible penalties he faces on the charges, including possible fines from $5-$100 and $20-$300 and from 10-100 days and 90 days to six months in jail on the various weapons and intoxication charges.
Bond was set at $2,500.
“Don’t go home and jump on your wife,” Williamson cautioned Bowens. “Don’t blame her because she took the keys.”
In other arrest reports:
• Everett Whitt Dempsey, 32, of Logan, was arrested in Logan County by Logan City Police Sgt. Dave White and Patrolman Artie Willis and Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy Terry Brumfield on April 20 for public intoxication and obstructing an officer.
According to police reports, on April 20, the police officers responded to an incident on White Street where a man identified as Dempsey “was urinating in public.”
“Upon arrival, officers observed the subject in the corner of a building along White Street,” the report states.
“(Dempsey) was highly intoxicated and placed against the patrol car for a protective search. Subject would not comply with any instructions,” the report continued.
Dempsey was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 8:23 p.m.
