Chapmanville is first in this week’s Class AA state poll, while Man is No. 1 in Class A.
Logan is fourth in the 3A poll.
The sectional tourneys begin this week.
Chapmanville (24-3) is slated to play at Scott on Wednesday in a sectional doubleheader at Madison beginning at 5 p.m. A winner-take-all final would then be played on Thursday in case of a split. Scott is ranked sixth in the state in Class AA heading into the sectionals.
Man (15-0) is slated to battle with Gilbert and Van in the sectionals this week and are heavy favorites. The Lady Billies have homefield advantage throughout the postseason and are hoping to repeat as Class A state champs.
Logan has a 24-5 record and are scheduled to play No. 1-ranked South Charleston on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the first game of the 3A sectionals at South Charleston High School. The winner plays George Washington in the 7 p.m. nightcap. The finals are then set for Thursday at 7 p.m., also at SC. The Lady Cats beat South Charleston 3-2 earlier in the season at home.
Ripley is rated second in Class AAA, while St. Albans is third. Lincoln County is fifth, Jefferson sixth, Parkersburg South seventh, Hurricane eighth, Hedgesville ninth and Nitro 10th.
In Class AA, No. 1 Chapmanville is followed by No. 2 Point Pleasant. The Lady Tigers and Lady Knights played three times this season with Chapmanville winning two of those by one-run margins. Herbert Hoover is third, followed by Ritchie County, Independence, Scott, Sissonville, Roane County, Shady Spring and Keyser.
In Class A, No. 1 Man is followed by Wheeling Central. The Lady Billies beat the Maroon Knights, 7-3, in last year’s state tourney title game at Vienna. Buffalo is third, Charleston Catholic fourth, East Hardy fifth, Madonna sixth, Huntington St Joseph seventh, Cameron eighth, South Harrison ninth and Richwood 10th.
