MAN – Cory Spence went the distance on the mound as the Man High School baseball team blasted the Van Bulldogs, 12-5, on Monday night during Senior Night at Man.

Man improved to 13-11 on the season with the win.

Spence, a senior right-hander, went seven innings and allowed five runs (two earned) with six hits, eight strikeouts and four walks. Matt Doss was the losing pitcher for Van (1-15).

Steven Craddock and Travis Hurley were each 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Man. Jordan Simpson added a double for the Billies. Cody Harvey was 1-for-3 with three RBI. Evan Riggins had a hit and RBI. Spence added a hit and an RBI for Man. Duke Vance and David Johnson contributed one hit each. Ryan Crum stole four bases and scored three runs.

Casey Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Van.

“It was a good senior night,” Man coach Larry Vance said after the game. “We had only one bad inning as Van scored four runs off Spence. We made three errors that cost us. We’re still hitting the ball well. Travis Hurley and Steven Craddock had multiple hits for us.”

Man travels to Matewan today for a 5 p.m. contest.
