MAN — Three major projects in the town of Man are moving forward.

The town will begin its sidewalk replacement project soon, according to Mayor Jim Blevins. The project has been in the works for a long time, since citizens approached the council about damaged sidewalks in their neighborhood a few years ago.

The mayor and members of the town council met with West Virginia Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin about the problem and were aggressive in going after funding for the program in grants.

The town is currently accepting construction bids for the project, according to officials at the Man Town Hall. Bid specification packet for prospective contractors can be picked up at Man City Hall, officials said.

The mayor said the public should be cautious around the work. Old sidewalks will be taken up and new ones will replace them thanks to two $100,00 grants. Mayor Blevins said the town has applied for an additional grant to help with the complete replacement of all sidewalks in town.

The town had some good news on another long term project for this summer, the reopening of the pool.

Councilman John Fekete said the Man Pool is "ahead of the game" this year.

Last year, the pool was left high and dry when ownership and operation of the pool reverted to the town, which had to scramble to try and get the facility open. Since that time, however, a lot of headway has been made, according to Fekete, who said lifeguards have been hired and are attending training now.

Fekete said the Park Board, Town Council, Man Fire Department, Logan County Commission and Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin have all contributed to making the pool better this summer than last. "Everybody has been working together and it is going a lot easier this year," Fekete said. "The electrical work is done, the new pumps are in and the mayor picked up a new mower. It will be a lot nicer this year than last."

Fekete said the Man Pool should open on Memorial Day weekend. He said there will be several "Splash" pool parties this summer and the pool will be available for birthday parties, reunions and other events.
