Many local fire departments have stepped in to assist flood victims with donations of supplies.
Chief Robert Paynter of the Man Fire Department said his department will be taking donations and supplies to Gilbert every day this week.
"Anybody who wants to donate water, supplies or even clothing, we will be taking them in every day this week all day long and we will be taking them to Gilbert,” Paynter said.
The Town of West Logan will also be collecting donations of bottled water and cleaning supplies to be taken to Mingo County to assist flood victims. Those wanting to make donations can drop them off at Town Hall or at the West Logan Water Department.
Joe Raymond, an executive with BB&T Bank, was in Logan on Tuesday and said his company was hit hard by the flood and decided to do something about it to help victims.
"Saturday, when that all occurred, we realized we had a humanitarian committee that responds to natural disasters of this sort," he explained. "I contacted an executive in Winston-Salem, N.C., and we began coordinating a response to flooding. We got a truck with 10,000 bottles of water and cleaning supplies that left Winston-Salem on Saturday and arrived in Williamson on Sunday afternoon. We gave them to the county commission over there to pass out into the communities where it is needed. Our office in Gilbert was damaged, but we have it partially opened. The bank itself should be reopened by Wednesday. We have a lot of branches in West Virginia and we wanted to do something to help.”
