CHAPMANVILLE – The Chapmanville Regional High School girls' softball team is just one win from the state tournament.
The No. 1-ranked Lady Tigers shut out Wayne, 5-0, on Thursday night at home in the Class AA regional semifinals at the Chapmanville Softball Complex.
The win moves the Lady Tigers into next Thursday's Class AA Region 3 championship game against Herbert Hoover. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
Chapmanville is searching for its first state tourney berth since 2007. That year, the Lady Tigers went on to win the state championship – the school's third overall and third since 1999.
Andi Williamson fired a no-hitter in last night's game as she struck out 17 batters and issued no walks in seven innings of work. Wayne had just one baserunner via error.
Bre Thomas was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Chapmanville. Williamson was 2-for-4, while Tiffini Hale, Lauren Shumate and Lauren McCann all added hits.
Chapmanville improved to 27-3 on the season with the win.
It was the third shutout win over the Lady Pioneers this season. CRHS also had 2-0 and 10-0 wins.
The Lady Tigers are 2-0 this season against Herbert Hoover.
Chapmanville swept a home doubleheader over the Huskies, 5-3 and 7-0 on April 27 at Chapmanville.
Last week, the Lady Tigers wrapped up the Class AA sectional championship with a pair of wins over homestanding Scott. Chapmanville downed Scott 1-0 and 12-0 to take the crown.
