It was a washout on Monday night as the Logan and Man high school baseball teams saw its regional tournament games called off due to rain and wet field conditions.

Logan (23-8) and Riverside (18-15) will try to play their Class AAA Region 3 semifinal game again tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Logan High School’s Roger Gertz Field.

Man (15-13) and Matewan (9-9) will also try again tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Man. The Hillbillies and Tigers were scheduled to play a Class A Region 4 semifinal game.

The Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team is also slated to be in action tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Chapmanville’s Ted Ellis Field as the Tigers are slated to face Wayne in the Class AA Region 4 semifinals.

The winners of all three games will move on later in the week to play in regional championship games.

Logan is on a roll heading into the regional tourney.

The Wildcats have won seven out of their last eight games.

Logan went 3-1 last week to win its Class AAA sectional championship. It was Logan’s 10th straight sectional title dating back to 2000. The Wildcats then won two “tune-up” games last Friday with wins over Man (10-0) and Charleston Catholic (13-8).

Left-hander Todd Fleming was slated to take to the mound last night against Riverside. Fleming is 4-1 on the season with a 1.01 ERA.

Logan is also led by senior shortstop Ross Easterling, who is hitting .463 on the season. Senior centerfielder Josh Wilson is also hitting .410, while Jordan Butcher, a senior shortstop and pitcher, has a .372 batting average. Senior catcher Cody Vinson has a .351 average. David Brown, a sophomore third baseman, is hitting at a .344 clip.

On the mound, Butcher is 5-2 with a 3.31 ERA. Submarine right-hander Ronnie Abbott is 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA.

Logan is 2-0 this season against Riverside with wins of 7-3 and 3-0 over a month ago.

Riverside is also hot having won six straight games, including a win over state power Cabell Midland.

Tyler Ratliff (.440), Mike Conley (.383) and Cody Downey (.369) lead the Warriors. Caleb Holstine (7-3, 2.92) was set to take to the mound in last night’s game.

Last night’s Logan-Riverside game was called after a 30-minute rain delay. Steady rain through pre-game warm-ups caused the infield to get thick with mud.

Rain is also in the forecast for Tuesday with strong storms possible.
