MAN — Man High School has announced honor students for the graduating class of 2009.

Valedictorians

Havilah Rey Chowdbury

Havilah Rey Chowdhury, the daughter of Angie Maynor Chowdhury, plans to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College and pursue a major in radiologic technology. Her school activities included Math Field Day and the Social Studies and Coal Fairs.

Taylor Brooke Grimmett

Taylor Brooke Grimmett, the daughter of Rick and Becky Grimmett of Neibert, plans on attending Marshall University to pursue a degree in Pre-Med/Biology with the intent of becoming and anesthesiologist. Her school activities included Senior Class vice president; National Beta Club vice president; National Honor Society secretary; Student Council delegate; Yearbook staff; Float Committee; Prom Committee; Math Field Day; Senior Homecoming attendant; former West Virginia Senate page; former varsity cheerleader; library aide; office assistant and Harmony Week participant.

John Zachary Vance

John Zachary Vance, the son of John and Kimberly Vance of Davin, plans to attend West Virginia University to pursue a degree in Pre-Med/Biology with the intent on becoming a family care physician. His school activities included Senior Class president; Student Council president; National Beta Club president; National Honor Society treasurer; Yearbook staff; Float Committee; National Academic Challenge winner; Math Field Day participant; former West Virginia Senate page; Prom Committee and Library aide. His other activities include West Virginia Boys' State representative; Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Organization Alumni and Harmony Week participant.

Salutatorian

Mariah Herman

Mariah Herman, the daughter of Mike Herman of Mallory and Darla Herman of Charleston, plans to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in the fall. Her school activities include National Honor Society member, Beta Club member, Student Council, and Float Committee.

Historian

Carrie McGraw

Carrie, the daughter of Rudy Phillips and Caroline McGraw of Mallory, plans to attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College to pursue a major in science. Her school activities included National Honor Society member, Beta Club member, HSTA, Robotics Team, Academic Challenge and Student Council.

Commencement ceremonies for Man High School will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28.

Congratulations to the young men and women. I know all of them as one of their teachers. They are indeed wonderful young people.

I have not doubt they will make their mark at college and thereafter.
