The Kiwanis Club of Logan is focusing on flood relief and fundraising in June.
Kiwanis member Kristi Adkins told members that there are two families from Varney who are currently living in a school at Burch.
"These families have young children and they need baby things like clothes, toys and stuff. They have literally lost everything. Anything that you think a small child could use would make a good donation."
The Kiwanians have been collecting donations of food and clothing for flood relief at Gatti's Restaurant near the Fountain Place Cinema 8. The club has three large boxes to hold donations which will be shipped to the Harless Center at Gilbert to be shipped out to smaller communities.
Kiwanis President Diana Barnett said the Logan Child Advocacy Center is having a fundraiser on June 18, and requested Kiwanians to support the event.
"They will be playing Bingo for the chance of winning ladies purses," Barnett said. "For $20 you get two cards to play Bingo. If you hit Bingo, you win a purse. This sounds like it would be a lot of fun and it is for a very good cause."
The Kiwanians have reserved the parking lot at the Thornhill Superstore Outlet at the Fountain Place Mall for their upcoming Bicycle Safety Rodeo on August 22. Barnett said over 100 helmets for the event have been purchased thanks to donations from sponsors.
Volunteers for the event will be needed to man each station, she said. Members can contact Barnett for more details.
"We need you to let people in your community know that this event for kids is coming so we can get a good turnout," Barnett said.
Kristi Adkins discussed an upcoming Walk and Run event which will also need volunteers. Adkins said the event will be part of the upcoming Arts and Crafts Fair around August 8. On Friday evening there will be a special dinner for the walkers who will start their trekking on Saturday.
"We need volunteers to help with the dinner," Adkins said.

Frankie Esposito told the Kiwanians that a student from Logan County who graduated in 2004 is currently working in California and involved in fundraising for Habitat for Humanity. The student had requested a $50 donation for the project, which was approved.
