WEST LOGAN — It's been business as usual in the town of West Logan despite a recent election.
On Tuesday, voters turned out to approve a measure on the ballot that would switch from two year elections to four year elections. Twenty voters were in favor of the move with 10 against the measure that will save the town money. Nobody filed to run against Mayor Darren Akers, Town Recorder/Clerk Kristi Adkins or councilmembers Mary Randan, Howard Moore, Jamie Browning, Delores Murray or Mark Mareske, who were all reelected. However there was one new name on the ballot. Due to a typo, Mareske was listed as "Mark Maraseke".
An election canvas will be held on Monday, June 15 at 7:30 at Town Hall.
The town's finances are on a current upswing, Town Clerk Kristi Adkins said at Monday's town council meeting.
"We got $5,000 from the county commission last month and that brings our total in that account to over $8,000," she said.
Adkins said the town's B&O taxes were pretty good in May too.
The town did get a bill for $1,500 from Waste Management, however.
The financial report and June bills were accepted.
Other issues addressed by the council include people with loud mufflers on their automobiles and motorcycles, as well as people riding ATVs and motorbikes at high rates of speed on First Avenue. A drain on First Avenue that has been blocked with garbage was also discussed.
